Project:
Book cover for The Collector by Jessica Peter.
The book’s synopsis, provided by the author, served as my brief for creating the illustration.
"Deauville, 1920. Professor Viktor Skorpión, a renowned botanist, known for his habit of always holding some sort of pliers, tongs, or secateurs in his hands, reads in a journal that hair, buried in a plant’s soil, can make it grow faster. He tries the experiment with a lock of hair given by his cook: the next day, the flower has grown huge, but more surprisingly... it has taken on the lady's features! He repeats the process with a few strands from his maid, Rose. The next day, the rose (of course) looks like Rose. He shares his discovery with one of his friends, who remains perplexed: he sees NO resemblance between the flowers and the women. Has Viktor imagined it all? Are his flowers just flowers? Or are they... something else?"

Illustration created in watercolour and then digitised.
The original piece was painted in watercolour, a technique I love for its lightness and subtle shades. Once digitised, the illustration is ready to be used for any editorial project, whether as a book cover or a magazine illustration. My artistic approach adapts to the editorial framework while creating a cover that draws the reader’s attention.
